Help! How do I ask a professor for a reference letter?

And here are some of my personal tips:

1. I found it best to bring all your work (hopefully you did well!) to them, and also to type up something simple (a paragraph or more) about yourself, what you’ve done in university, why you want to apply to your program. Not only does it jog their memory of you (if you haven’t talked to them in a while), but it also allows them to see something concrete when writing your reference letter.

2. Make sure you ask if they would be comfortable writing you a STRONG reference letter. Better that you find out now and ask another professor, then to realize later that a professor wrote you a weak reference letter.

3. Don’t be nervous! =)
